Eclipse Cards
I've seen a lot of these cards made with foam tape behind the letters and this technique wasn't originally done with foam tape. Rather, the original idea was to stack die cuts to replicate chipboard pieces that we used to buy to accentuate our creations.
Eclipse card tutorial , pictured above, done in the original method of stacking multiple die cuts to create depth.
This is why this method gives a better result than just using foam pads:
1. The shadow effect of the letters is increased by the solid base behind each letter, giving you a more defined letter from any angle.
2. You can adjust the number of layers depending on your situation and need, like more or less for postage.
3. Using a contrasting color to create the backing layers also has more impact, in that you can use a highly contrasting color to define the letter or shapes more.
4. Your letters, with such a solid backing will stay in better condition if posting.
Another card tutorial, above, using the same technique but using digital images and a printed background.
A third card tutorial, using a combination of dies, digital stamps and a preprinted background.
