Removing Stamps From Wooden Blocks
Tutorial: Removing Stamps From Wooden Blocks
This is a copy of my personal notes on how to remove red rubber stamps from wooden blocks. There are two methods included.
This is not a link to a blog post, just a simple how to, hence this is quite lengthy.
QUICK METHOD:
1. Microwave stamp on block for 4 seconds.
2. Remove the stamp from the wooden block.
3. Take plastic picture off the back of the wooden block, trace & trim image.
4. Stick it to the foam on the back of the rubber stamp, using the tissue paper method below, if necessary.
5. Apply Tombow glue to top of plastic image and allow to dry overnight. Should be sticky enough to stick directly onto the stamp block.
A MORE THOROUGH METHOD:
1. You'll need tissue paper & plain paper, stazon ink.
2. Tape tissue paper to plain paper, using pieces a bit larger than the stamp.
3. Stamp image onto tissue paper & while leaving the stamp in position, trace around the outer edge of the stamp.
4. Squeeze Tombow glue onto finger & smear a thin layer onto the tissue paper (on top of the stamped image). Allow to dry completely.
5. Cut small piece of cling vinyl & cover the stamped image.
6. Press firmly & cut around the outside edge of the traced line.
7. Align the tissue side of the image onto back of the stamp removed from the block (you may need to add a little extra glue for these) or the unmounted stamp. (Unmounted stamps are the red rubber stamps with sticky paper on the back.)
8. For tiny stamps, cut around the outside edge of the stamp leaving a 5mm border. This will give the smaller stamp extra cling on the block.
Cling vinyl is also known as:
- Crystal Clear
- Double Polished
- Vinyl Fabric
(Not Matt or frosted vinyl, it won't stick to stamp block)
